When your cat starts to reach those golden years his senses will slowly start to decline. His vision will deteriorate, as well as his hearing and sense of smell. Not all cats age the same, but there are some common changes that you can look out for so you can be sure to take extra care when he starts to hit old age.

There’ll be some changes that you may hardly notice as the years go on because your cat adopts to them but if you pay attention and have regular veterinarian checkups, then any diseases or other negative affects of aging can be prevented as best possible. On the other hand, some changes will be very obvious to you, such as bad breath which is the result of dental disease.

The quality of cat shelters has changed dramatically over the past 20 years. In fact, it’s sad to say but there was a time when a shelter was simply a dumping ground for stray cats with little or no attention to the quality of their life. It was just a place where cats can be thrown off the streets until they were either picked up, or they died.

Fortunately, most shelters have changed for the best and provide top quality care and nutrition for cats that have no homes. In these facilities, the adult cats and kittens are treated with respect and get the care that they need. They are maintained in sleeping quarters that makes them feel comfortable and are kept sanitary. There are many shelters today that even separate the cats living area from the dogs living area, making it a bit easier for the cat’s atmosphere.

Even though it seems like everybody has a cat these days, there is still one group of people who are sure to keep their distance from these feline friends of ours - people that have allergies!

This is one of the biggest hurdles to overcome from people that truly love cats but think that they can not enjoy one in their house due to their allergy problems. This is especially true when it is actually the cat itself that causes allergic reactions.
